Dr. Faisal Hussain, MD, MHIIM, RHIA, CCDS, CDIP, CCS, is the System CDI Physician Advisor at MedStar Health, the largest healthcare provider in Maryland and the Washington, D.C. region. In this role, he leads systemwide documentation integrity initiatives and provider education, partnering with executive leadership, clinical informatics, and physician stakeholders to strengthen documentation quality, analytics, and enterprise‑wide performance while supporting the organization’s CDI vision and strategy.
A physician leader in health informatics and clinical documentation improvement, Dr. Hussain brings over a decade of experience advancing data‑driven healthcare transformation. With deep expertise across both inpatient and outpatient CDI, he has led transformative initiatives spanning major hospital systems and physician practices nationwide. Throughout his career, he has modernized CDI operations by redesigning analytics dashboards, integrating EMR‑based workflows in collaboration with clinical informatics and physician leaders, and implementing data‑driven methodologies to improve performance, transparency, and sustainability.
His leadership and impact have been recognized with multiple national honors, including the 2023 ACDIS Diversity in CDI Award, the 2024 Solventum Summit Award for Analytics, and the 2025 Solventum Summit Award for CDI Partnership & Innovation.
Dr. Hussain earned his Doctor of Medicine from Aga Khan University Medical College, and his Master’s degree in Health Informatics and Health Information Management from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he established the foundation for his career in informatics‑driven healthcare leadership. Through his work, he exemplifies the mission of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center by advancing interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and excellence in health professions education and practice.
He has held senior leadership roles across multiple large health systems and healthcare technology organizations, including Executive Director of CDI at Wellstar Health System, one of Georgia’s largest healthcare providers, and Corporate CDI Director at Community Health Systems (CHS) based in Franklin, Tennessee. His work has focused on designing scalable, analytics‑driven CDI programs, integrating EMR‑based workflows, and aligning clinical documentation with quality, compliance, and reimbursement objectives.
Dr. Hussain has also served as Senior Medical Director at CorroHealth and Vice President of CDI Solutions at Reventics, Inc., collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize CDI workflows, products, and enterprise solutions aligned with strategic organizational goals.
A recognized national voice in health informatics and information management, Dr. Hussain has spoken at national and regional conferences and contributed to industry dialogue on data transparency, clinical documentation integrity, and physician engagement. He currently serves on the ACDIS Advisory Board and ACDIS Leadership Council and has previously contributed to the ACDIS Regulatory Committee.
