2025 Most Outstanding Methodist School of Nursing Alumna

Jackie Morton, MHA, BSN, RN, CIC was an honor graduate from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1995 where she received her diploma as a registered nurse. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from University of Memphis, and she also holds a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Western Governors University.
Currently, Jackie serves as the Corporate Director of Infection Prevention for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. The Methodist Le Bonheur system consists of 96 outpatient sites and six hospitals with 1,687 licensed beds where infections have steadily declined over the past decade under Jackie’s leadership. She credits her Infection Prevention nursing team as her best asset, and working together, she and the team are striving toward a goal of zero preventable infections. Last year, more than half of the Healthcare Acquired Infection metrics resulted in zero infections. Prior to joining the fight against infections, Jackie served 16 years caring for burn intensive care patients and leading the Infection Prevention program at a Level One Trauma Center.
Jackie currently serves on the local Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Board and has served as a past President. In addition, she served on the Tennessee Hospital Association Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Advisory Board and the MRSA Collaborative with Center for Disease Control, Tennessee and Kentucky. She has led several outbreak investigation responses to threats including Ebola, Measles, Mpox, and Candida Auris. Throughout her career, Jackie has received numerous awards including Top 100 Nurses in Shelby and Fayette County in 2007 as a bedside nurse and was named a Healthcare Hero by the Memphis Business Journal for her work during the COVID pandemic.
Jackie was born in Memphis, TN and enjoyed growing up as one of seven siblings. She loves spending time with her bulldogs and Rhodesian ridgeback but confesses that three dogs are too many. Jackie has run marathons and loves the outdoors whether it is hiking or snowboarding. When Jackie is not fighting infections, she is spending time with the love of her life, Chris, including renovating their historic home. While Chris is the lead on planning and expertise, Jackie is a powerful force when it comes to roofing, hole digging and demolition. Jackie credits her mom and dad for her solid integrity and strong work ethics.
