2026 Methodist Hospital School of Nursing Outstanding Alumna Award

Janet Tucker, PhD, RNC-OB, is an Associate Professor for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Nursing, where she has been on the faculty since July 2019.
She received her Diploma of Nursing from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the former Memphis State University. She completed her Master of Science of Nursing focusing on Nursing Education with a concentration in Maternal-Child Health at the University of Memphis in 2010 and her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016. Dr. Tucker’s research focus has been the experience of expectant women who receive a fetal anomaly diagnosis. Dr. Tucker also led a study on nurses who provided care in labor and delivery the first months of the COVID pandemic. Recently, she has been involved in research related to theory in nursing education. Dr. Tucker has presented nationally and regionally on topics focused on the high-risk obstetric population and nursing education. She was inducted as a Fellow in AWHONN in 2025.
Dr. Tucker has extensive experience in maternal-child health nursing. Dr. Tucker holds a national inpatient Labor and Delivery certification by NCC. She has served as a mentor in the Sigma Theta Tau Maternal Child Health Nursing Leadership Academy. She was appointed to the Tennessee Birth Defects Registry Advisory Committee in 2018. Additionally, she has edited numerous chapters in nursing textbooks.
