Eugene C. Mangiante, Jr., MD ’75

Dr. Mangiante has been practicing medicine for more than 40 years. He is a professor of General and Acute Care Surgery at UTHSC and Chief of Surgery at the Memphis VA Medical Center.

He has served as Program director for Surgery, Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and co-founder of the Memphis Trauma Center.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Harwell Wilson Surgical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha, Memphis Surgical Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and many more. His accolades include being an Associate examiner for the American Board of Surgery Certifying Exam, being a finalist for the Memphis Business Journal’s Innovators Award, Federal employee of the year, and being a member of the testing committee for the National Board of Medical Examiners.

A native Memphian, Dr. Mangiante is a graduate of Christian Brothers High School and Christian Brothers University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in chemistry and biology. After graduating from UTHSC and completing his residency, he became certified in trauma and surgical critical care.
