2025 Outstanding Alumnus Award Winner

Lynn Massingale, M.D., FACEP, is the chairman of TeamHealth. Since co-founding the predecessor of TeamHealth in 1979, he served as the chairman and CEO until 2008 when he undertook the role of executive chairman and continued in that role until 2017 when he assumed his current role.
As one of the nation’s largest integrated physician practices, TeamHealth’s more than 15,000 physicians, advanced practice clinicians and affiliated healthcare professionals provide emergency medicine, hospital medicine, critical care, anesthesiology, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, obstetrics, acute behavioral health, post-acute care, post-acute behavioral health, ambulatory care and medical call center solutions to approximately 2,700 acute and post-acute facilities and physician groups nationwide. Across our nationwide footprint, we had more than 26 million patient encounters in 44 states. TeamHealth has been recognized by Forbes magazine as one of “America’s Most Trustworthy Companies,” multiple times by Fortune Magazine as one of the “Worlds Most Admired Companies,” and by Becker’s Healthcare as one of the “150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare.”
Dr. Massingale is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association, and the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. His current leadership positions include the Board of Directors of Cedar Recovery and Southeast Primary Care Partners. Former leadership roles include National Chairman of the Emergency Department Practice Management Association, Medical Director of Emergency Medical Services for the state of Tennessee, and member of the Boards of Directors of the Nashville Healthcare Council, Health Insights and himagine solutions.
A Tennessee Wesleyan University graduate in 1974, Dr. Massingale earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis and performed his internship at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He has been certified by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners, the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has been recognized as one of the American College of Emergency Physicians “Heroes of Emergency Medicine” and as one of Modern Healthcare’s “Most Powerful Physician Executives.” In 2018, Dr. Massingale was a Tennessee Health Care Hall of Fame inductee. Most recently, in 2022, he was named “113 Great Leaders in Healthcare” by Becker’s Hospital Review.
